This is the most precious time of my life. As a child, I continuously grow, learn, change and discover the God-given gifts that make me the greatest miracle in the world.
Today, more than ever, the world is beset by hunger, injustice, exploitation and other serious problems. I often pause to think in silence why some people all over the world could be so cruel and selfish, so focused on differences, power, material comforts, and personal interests that now have created a world filled with injustice and violence.
Everywhere I see a great number of children like me in the streets begging, exploited by drug pushers, abandoned and physically abused. Life has become so full of activities and conflicts that people seem to have forgotten how to live harmoniously with other people. Amidst all these, we children are the ones who suffer most.
From the moment when I was born, I believe that I was gifted with a lot of potentials which make me the most special creation of God. Each day as I grow older, I acquire new thoughts and ideas, new skills and abilities that enable me to do bigger tasks and responsibilities. The education I get at home and school, reading books, interacting with my teachers and relating with other people have made me a better person.
Now I realize that the tool I needed to make a change and a difference in this world cannot be found in the four corners of my home and school. It is out there, in the people around me and above all, it is here within me waiting to be discovered, developed, and disciplined.
Everyone regardless of who he is or what he does or thinks has equal rights and freedom that he must enjoy to the fullest. Even a child like me has all the rights which all older people claim for themselves. As I shed off my childish ways, now I will not be afraid to express my thoughts and opinions, to face more challenges, to protect and exercise my rights without forgetting that with these rights come greater responsibilities.
My world is a world of people; family, friends and so many others who cross my life. They are the people whom I should help and support, whom I should learn to grow with. A smile, a touch, or a hand to give if someone stumbles or falls; these are simple acts of kindness that can bring joy to the weak, the least, and the lost.
I will listen to the small voice within myself, and build a strong moral conscience through the help of my parents, teachers, friends, church leaders and other significant people around me. Being good is a challenge to everyone, and being a child, it may sometimes be difficult to achieve. However, because most of the things that I need to become one are found within me, all I need to do is to simply be sincere and honest in my thoughts, words and deeds.
In this fast changing world we are faced with a lot of choices and decisions to make. Now I know without doubt, that the greatest choice and decision I can make is completely give myself for others because with it I will learn to serve a little better, to work a little harder, and to love a little more.
There can be justice, there can be peace on earth if in my heart you are my friend, you are my brother.
